Winter Option

We are thrilled to introduce our Science Communication and Outreach Winter long opportunity, tailored for children and adolescents with a passion for science communication. This 12-week program will be held three times per week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 6pm-7pm CET, commencing on November 11th, 2023 and concluding on January 31st, 2024. The Summer of activities encompasses of a diverse range of topics, including science communication for young audiences, social media strategies for science communication, and the creation of impactful science content for YouTube. Our comprehensive activities aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively communicate scientific concepts to a wider audience.

Introduction to Science Communication

Week 1

This week will serve as an introduction to the Summer, where participants will gain an understanding of science communication and its importance in society. We will explore the various types of science communication, the role of science communicators, and the challenges and opportunities of science communication.

Communicating Science to Young Children 

Week 2

In this week, participants will learn how to communicate science concepts effectively to young children, including methods and techniques for making science engaging and fun. We will explore different communication styles and strategies for science communication with young children, and participants will have the opportunity to develop and practice their own science activities.

Week 3

This week, participants will focus on science communication with teenagers. We will explore the unique challenges of communicating science to this audience and discuss the most effective ways to engage and inspire teens to learn about science. We will cover topics such as social media, online platforms, and creative activities that can help make science more appealing to teens.

Using Social Media for Science Communication

Week 4

Social media is a powerful tool for science communication, and this week we will explore how to use it effectively. Participants will learn about different social media platforms, content creation, and best practices for engaging audiences online. We will discuss strategies for creating engaging science content that is shareable and can reach a wider audience.

Designing Effective Science Outreach Programs

Week 5

In this week, participants will learn how to design effective science outreach programs that engage and inspire their audiences. We will cover the key components of successful science outreach programs, including audience engagement, effective communication, and the use of hands-on activities. Participants will also have the opportunity to design their own science outreach programs.

Science in everyday life and its applications

Week 6

Science is all around us, and this week we will explore the ways in which science impacts our everyday lives. We will cover topics such as health, energy, and the environment, and discuss how to communicate these topics to a wider audience. Participants will learn how to make science more relevant and relatable to everyday life.

How to present in front of a camera lens

Week 7

This week, participants will learn how to present in front of a camera lens, which is a critical skill for science communicators. We will explore different techniques for delivering clear and effective presentations, including voice projection, body language, and use of visual aids. Participants will have the opportunity to practice presenting in front of a camera.

Script writing

Week 8

Good script writing is essential for effective science communication. In this week, participants will learn the basics of script writing, including structure, tone, and audience engagement. We will discuss how to write scripts for different types of media, including video, audio, and live presentations. Participants will have the opportunity to write their own science scripts.

How to present in front of a camera lens

Week 9

In this week, participants will learn how to present effectively in front of a camera lens. They will explore techniques for engaging their audience through their body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. They will learn how to use visual aids, such as slides or props, to enhance their presentations. Participants will also learn how to deal with nerves and anxiety, and will have the opportunity to practice their skills in front of a camera.

Public Speaking

Week 10

Effective public speaking is a key skill for science communicators. In this week, participants will learn how to deliver engaging and informative speeches to diverse audiences. They will explore different styles of public speaking and learn how to tailor their messages to different audiences. They will also learn how to use visual aids, gestures, and vocal techniques to enhance their presentations.

YouTube Presenting 

Week 11

In this week, participants will put their science communication skills to the test by recording their own YouTube videos. They will learn how to use cameras, microphones, and lighting to create high-quality videos that showcase their science communication skills. They will also learn how to use video editing software to refine their videos and make them engaging and informative.

YouTube Presenting

Week 12

In the final week, participants will continue working on their YouTube videos, refining them based on feedback from their peers and instructors. They will learn how to upload their videos to YouTube and optimize them for maximum engagement. They will also learn how to promote their videos on social media and other platforms. By the end, participants will have gained valuable skills in science communication and outreach, and will have a polished YouTube video to showcase their work.

* For those who apply by 1st May 2023 and settle payment by 5th May 2024, a 10% discount will be offered.
